History of Humble
The community of Humble began with the opening of a U. S. Post Office in 1886. Pleasant Smith Humble was named as the first postmaster.
Haden E. McKay Award
The Humble Area Chamber of Commerce started awarding a Citizen of the Year Award in 1967. In 1985, the name of the award was changed to the Haden E. McKay, MD Citizen of the Year Award, to recognize the contributions to the community of Mayor Haden McKay.

The Humble Independent School District began in 1884 as Harris County Common School District No. 28
